Heaven does exist. And I don't mean in an afterlife kind of place - this is the type of heaven one can escape to, and be in paradise - literally (see above).
I'm a summer baby, so naturally being in sunshine, near the ocean, in perfect company is pretty much a dream for me. So there I was, in my dreamy paradise. Bliss.
A short ferry trip from the mainland Split is the island Hvar - this place is absolutely beautiful. While I could try to paint a picture, I think it's one of those places you just have to see for yourself (sorry).
Hvar is the type of place you come to and do as little, or as much, as you want. You can spend all day in a lounger beside the ocean sipping on every cocktail under the sun, or venture through cobblestone streets discovering island trinket stalls, or tasting traditional cuisine. We opted for somewhere in between.
Mornings spent learning some of the history and culture - I highly recommend walking up the hill to visit the Hvar Fortress, if not just for an incredible pic of the view but the fortress is really fascinating! By midday the beach (and cocktails) were calling my name, and it was easy enough to secure a prime sun lounger at Hula Hula bar - where we remained until after the sun had set! Traveling on the shoulder season (early Sept) meant it wasn't very busy which was lucky for us, the day we ventured to Carpe Diem (5min boat over to the island bar) we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves - lush! Again incredible scenery, cocktails, sun, swimming, repeat. You get the picture.
The food - plenty of fresh seafood, which is pretty much all we ate, and a good selection of restaurants catering for varying budgets and occasions. (Note: some places only take cash, so don't forget your kunas). The wine lists comprised of many impressive selects, (including locally produced) although a cocktail was never far from my hand - heelllloooo Aperol spritz!
There's no doubt of my return to this paradise, only next time I will make sure the stay is longer (the tan could've done with a bit more work) - until then, stay beautiful Hvar x
